Benefits of Grief Coaching

Emotional support

Grief coaching provides a safe and non-judgmental space for you to express your emotions, thoughts, and concerns. As your coach, I offer compassionate listening and understanding, allowing you to share your grief openly and without fear of being misunderstood or invalidated.

Guidance through the grieving process

Grief coaching helps you understand the various stages and aspects of the grieving process, which can be different for everyone. As your coach, I offer guidance and information on what to expect, which can provide comfort and reassurance during a time of uncertainty.

Coping strategies

As your grief coach, I provide practical coping strategies and tools to help you individuals manage your grief effectively. I teach techniques such as deep breathing exercises, mindfulness practices, thought work, journaling, or other methods tailored to your individual needs. These strategies can assist in reducing anxiety, stress, and overwhelming emotions.

Normalization of grief

Grief coaching helps you understand that grief is a normal and natural response to loss. Sometimes you may feel isolated in your grief, but through coaching, you realize that your experiences are valid and shared by others. This normalization can be empowering and help alleviate feelings of loneliness.

Personal growth and transformation

Grief coaching offers opportunities for personal growth and transformation. As your coach, I help you explore your grief, gain insight into yourself, and develop a deeper understanding of your values, beliefs, and priorities. Through this process, you begin to find meaning and purpose in your loss and rebuild your life.

Building a support network

As your grief coach, I assist you in identifying and building a support network. If needed, I can connect you with support groups, therapists, or other individuals who have experienced similar losses. Building a community of support can be invaluable in the healing process.

Self-care and well-being

Grief coaching emphasizes the importance of self-care during the grieving process. As your coach, I encourage you to prioritize your physical, emotional, and mental well-being. I help you develop self-care routines, establish healthy boundaries, and make choices that support your healing and overall well-being.

You're ready for coaching if:

  • You're functioning in your daily life

  • You're looking for tools and support beyond what you've received in therapy

  • You don't often feel good, but you want to feel better

  • You know that while you're the expert on your own grief, you need support now

  • You want to see yourself as the hero -- not the victim -- of your own story

  • You know you'll eventually be ok even when grief knocks you on your ass

  • You're comfortable discussing both the spiritual and practical aspects of grief

  • You're committed to making yourself a priority

You're not quite ready if:

  • You're struggling to get by in your daily life

  • You're comfortable feeling bad most of the time

  • You're looking to someone outside yourself to "fix" your grief

  • You believe you've been dealt an unfair hand in life and there's nothing you can do about it

  • You aren't open to discussing grief through a spiritual lens

  • You aren't willing to work on yourself or get the support you need

How is coaching different from therapy?

Going to a coach vs. going to a therapist is like the difference between going to a personal trainer vs. going to a doctor. Whereas a coach sees a person who is mentally and emotionally functioning, and helps them live a better life, a therapist sees a person who is mentally and/or emotionally not functioning well, and helps them get better. However, many clients see both a therapist and a coach at the same time.

How can coaching help me with my grief?

I’m trained as both a coach and a grief educator. As a coach, I use a variety of tools, such as positive psychology, acceptance and commitment therapy exercises, metaphor and symbols, thought work, powerful questioning to provoke awareness, and the body compass (to help you reconnect and fully experience all of the sensations and emotions of grief). As a grief educator, there are various research-based frameworks I can introduce to help you better understand grief.

What makes you a spiritual life and grief coach?

In a few words: my personal experience. Losing my son presented me with an opportunity to awaken, or grow spiritually, which I chose to fully embrace. Since then, I've learned how the most important, never-steers-me-wrong voice in my life is that of my higher self. It speaks to me through my inner guidance system, and I've trained myself how to listen to it. I've also learned how to use various divination tools to help me connect with my inner guidance, such as oracle and tarot cards, automatic/channeled writing, meditation, and dowsing.

I've also taken a course on spiritual life coaching, but my personal experience has been far more valuable to me as a coach!
